(gordonbiersch.com) – Downtown, Seattle, Washington

How I heard of this place: Having lived downtown for a number of years, seeing movies at Pacific Place on numerous occasions, friends and I often found ourselves awaiting our showtimes at one of the “food court” restaurants. This was my second experience at Gordon Biersch, about a decade after the first!

Type of cuisine: Sophisticated gourmet food. Authentic German Lagers. Perfectly Crafted.

Inspired by the Reinheitsgebot of 1516, the Gordon Biersch experience rests upon the foundations of purity, simplicity and precision. This philosophy is most recognizable in our selection of authentic German lagers, each crafted on-site using only malted barley, hops, yeast and pure, filtered water. This same dedication extends to our kitchen, where our chefs create fresh dishes that perfectly balance comfort and excitement. Ambiance: Inside the Pacific Place mall, on the top floor, Gordon Biersch is one of a handful of dining establishments just beyond the movie theaters. A pseudo “patio” is offered to many of the diners with small children in their midst.

Patrons may also choose to sit inside the dimly lit space, offering dining room seating in an expansive space with windows looking to the outside and views of downtown shopping.

Also available is a dimly lit bar, complete with televisions playing the latest sporting event.

What I ordered: We came upon a coupon for one order of free Legendary Garlic Fries ($6.99) tossed in olive oil, garlic and parsley; a Gordon Biersch classic original since 1988, and continued with one Gorgonzola Ribeye ($26.99) for my husband, a 12 oz. grilled ribeye with signature gorgonzola butter and choice of two sides,

The Gastro Pub Burger ($12.99) for me: housemade bacon jam & bleu cheese sauce, mixed greens, tomato, gorgonzola cheese and caramelized onions, served with garlic fries,

A daily special burger for one of our dining companions,

and a happy hour portion of Shrimp & Mango Tacos ($14.99 normal price): shrimp served on corn tortillas with cabbage, mango, pico de gallo, cilantro, Sriracha cream and Mexican crema.

What I loved: While I only sampled my burger and the garlic fries, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised after my first dining experience at this establishment. The beef plentiful and perfectly prepared to my stipulations, the gorgonzola cheese creamy and pungent, the onions beautifully soft, oily and caramelized. And the garlic on the garlic fries does not disappoint!

Why I loved it: Simple cuisine prepared well, served in large portions. And since we had ample time ahead of us in the day, the long wait time to receive our menus, our orders and our checks was not a concern

Cost: Average ($12.99 – $26.99 per full meal)
