How I heard of this place: Yelp Elites are often invited to participate in special events, including tastings, grand openings, and exclusive events. I am lucky to have just earned by third year Elite badge and was so pleased to have had the opportunity (in my second year) to hear about Intrigue Chocolate Co. through one such invitation.

Type of cuisine: All things chocolate. Scratch that, artisanal chocolate.

Ambiance: Small, quaint, cozy, bringing a hipster vibe of sleek, rustic elegance to the heart of Pioneer Square.

A chocolate company where everything is made in house, the difference between hot cocoa, drinking chocolate, and hot chocolate must not be muddled, and truffle tastings are offered every Thursday evening from 18:00 – 20:00.

What I ordered: This being a Yelp Elite sponsored event, the creator of all things truffle and co-founder was present to give us an overview of the history of harvesting cacao, the intricacies of preparing the bean, and the differences between nibs, cocoa, chocolate, and more. On this evening, we sampled five truffles including: basil, Jamaican, mocha, pomegranate. A vanilla hot chocolate sample was also offered, giving warm closure to a special, intimate, informative evening.

What I loved: Mocha truffle. I was pleasantly surprised by the basil, easily a top among our samples. The Jamaican offered a delectable creaminess followed by a hint of progressive chili radiating throughout your tastebuds.

Why I loved it: Informative evening, elite chocolates, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. “Free” (requested donation $3) Art Wall.

Cost: High (Small but mighty Truffle Bars $9 each)
