(greatstateburger.com) – South Lake Union/Downtown Seattle, Washington

How I heard of this place: My husband and I watched the building go up as it’s very close to his office. He had seen what establishments were coming through, but it wasn’t until I was invited to a Yelp Elite event that we ventured into its bright, clean doors.

Type of cuisine: “Great State Burger is our take on the classic American burger joint. We continue the tradition of providing an amazing burger, a rich milkshake, and fast service for the 21st century customer. We offer the highest quality ingredients, serving grass-fed organically raised beef, organic milkshakes and crinkle cut fries, and fresh American cheese, lettuce and tomato.
Because we love where we live, we use all compostable packaging!…Our vendors help us deliver the realest burgers, fries, sodas, and shakes you’ve ever had! Check ’em out in all their glory.“
Ambiance: Casual, clean and bright, the open layout, the tall ceilings, and the white and wood combination of decor and furnishings truly add the illusion of more space to a minimalist setting.
A grand outdoor patio welcomes patrons through the Great State doors,
where they are promptly greeted by a wood-shingled cubicle, seating inside.
Ample seating at booths by large floor-to-high ceiling windowed spaces for much natural light and bike-watching,
complete with signage for approximate wait times!
Even a 21+ bar can be found at the back, darker and more emo for the local Amazon-hipster crowds.
What I ordered: Here for a private Yelp Elite event, with my husband as my +1, we were given free reign over our orders by one very happy, friendly, among-the-best customer service employees we have encountered to date!
(Not to mention the wonderfully accommodating manager, Marty, who offered to serve us an hour prior to the official Yelp start time. What!?!)
Both my husband and I selected the Double ($7.50) Combo ($12) with two patties of organically raised grass-fed beef, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and state sauce, accompanied by crinkle cut fries and a 16-ounce Jones soda.
I opted to upgrade to a 12-ounce strawberry (in season only) shake ($2.50).
We helped ourselves to ketchup and napkins, and seated ourselves ready to partake of the yummies.
What I loved: Our burgers were good, satisfying and perfectly char-grilled. The State sauce was dripping and the cheese melty and greasy, just the way we like it. The fries had just the right amount of crisp on the outside, softness on the inside, and the Jones soda fountain was a pleasant and sweet surprise. The strawberry shake, certainly a reason it was our cashier’s favorite, yummy, slightly sweet and thick-but-drinkable.
Why I loved it: The service. The staff could not have been more friendly, more accommodating, more personal, more like long-time friends. We definitely upped our love of the joint solely based on this experience. The quality of food and drink was good, of course, but it was the staff that took this place to five stars (out of five)! Thank you.
Cost: Average to high ($10 – $13 per combo meal of burger, fries, soda)
