How I heard of this place: When we were little, my dad would wake up early on Sunday mornings and head downtown to buy us a baker’s dozen fresh, hot bagels from the best bagel-factory ever. Each Sunday morning we would jump out of bed and rush to the kitchen to savor the new and yummy flavors he would choose. After decades of coming back to The Bagelry at every chance we got, we finally stayed to dine in and could get some photos before devouring our meals!

Type of cuisine: Bagels galore!

“Since 1984, The Bagelry has been a landmark in Bellingham – the place to meet for breakfast, lunch, coffee, or snacks and to enjoy one of our fabulous bagels. The Bagelry employs more than thirty people to serve our seven to eight hundred customers each day. You can find a great cross section of local people at any time of day enjoying these traditional bagels.

There is nothing like a good bagel, and at The Bagelry, we proudly produce the best bagels in the Northwest. The bagels at The Bagelry are made in the time-honored tradition that is hard to find today even in New York. Ambiance: Cute. Quirky. Large, yet unpretentious.

Simple and warm. Family-friendly. Spacious and smells like a dream…of fresh bread!

What I ordered: I enjoyed an 8-ounce mocha ($2.40) and my husband ordered the 16-ounce mocha ($3.00). My bagel was the classic, Plain with a Jalapeño Cream Cheese ($2.45)

while my husband chose the Pesto & Ricotta omelette with a buttered plain bagel.

We also shared one day-old Blackbottom Cupcake ($2.45) at the recommendation of a customer in front of us in line, and the cashier!

What I loved: BAGEL! Bagel! Bagel!

Why I loved it: Have I said how much I love their bagels? Soft, yet dense on the inside, crisped to golden perfection on the outside. Lightly sour, perfectly bready.
