(espressoavellino.com) – Downtown Bellingham, Washington
How I heard of this place: While it has been a downtown Bellingham staple for over a decade, it wasn’t until a good friend of ours began roasting and selling his own coffee, that we truly made note of Avellino – one of his customers!
Type of cuisine: “We make excellent coffee, our bakery is in-house and runs at full steam, we have free wi-fi, daily newspapers including the NY Times, and our packed cafe is a testament to our service. Our approach is friendliness before snobbery, and a fair price for an above average product.“
Ambiance: Quaint and cozy, a true Bellingham cafe, boasting amber-lighting, mismatched furnishings that one might find at grandma’s house, friendly staff and an easy, laid-back setting.
What I ordered: A short (8-ounce) Chai ($2.80), made in-house and a warmed up Pesto Cheese Roll ($4.50).
Our dining companion also selected the Pesto Cheese Roll – he claims it’s the best pastry made at Avellino – and a small mug of Gourmet Drip Coffee ($1.95), while my husband splurged with a Grande Caramel Latte ($4.55),
and two toasted, sliced and buttered sausage, cheese and herb biscuits.
What I loved: The Pesto Cheese Roll, closely followed by the creamy, smooth, Caramel Latte.
Why I loved it: It’s in Bellingham. I ♥ Bellingham.
Cost: Average ($2.60 – $5.05 per espresso beverage)
