Fresh Bistro

How I heard of this place: The name was familiar, but it was not until I saw the TravelZoo voucher, including a dinner for four that we made the trek out to West Seattle to sample its fare.

Type of cuisine: A West Seattle restaurant, Fresh Bistro is a neighborhood favorite for every day and every occasion, for every family member and every friend. Featuring a menu that reflects the best of local producers, local people and a local feel, diners enjoy great food in a comfortable environment. Whether dining at our new communal table with your neighbors, or at a private one, join us for dinner, happy hour, or weekend brunch.

Fresh Bistro is the restaurant favorite of Herban Feast Catering.  Created by founder of Herban Feast, BJ Duft, and Executive Chef Dalis Chea, Fresh Bistro encompasses the duo’s love of comfort food and relationships with local farms and producers.

From the convivial bar and dining room with communal and private seating, you’ll be delighted by seasonal small plates and dishes inspired by cultures from around the world.  It’s what sets Fresh Bistro apart.

With innovative cocktails, a stellar wine list and a Northwest microbrew selection that’s been known to turn a few heads, Fresh Bistro is your new neighborhood favorite for dinner, happy hour or weekend brunch.”

Ambiance: Clean, bright and air-filled, the newness of the space truly appeals to the comfort-seekers’ dining experience. From the outdoor patio, covered off-street seating backed by wooden-framed glass doors, to the high ceilings, green walls and soft lighting. The clanking sounds of eating utensils, and lively conversation abounds throughout the establishment, happy faces enjoying meals among family and friends.

What I ordered: Offered a deal including a starter, entree and dessert for each of us, we were pleased to have the opportunity for some family-style dining. At the suggestion of our server, I selected the Shiso Honey Pecan Prawns ($12) to start: chili green mango puree, candied pecans, Sriracha foam and shiso powder.

My husband chose the Moules-Frites ($12): mussels, spicy Landjäeger, stewed tomatoes, white wine-butter broth, basil, truffled frites and roasted garlic aioli.

Our two dining companions each ordered the Sardinian Soup ($8 each) with zucchini, rainbow chard, fregola, chick peas, truffled kale and croutons.

What I loved: It was a true toss-up between the truffled fries and the Shiso Honey Pecan Prawns as to the favorite flavors of the evening,

but I’m certain they will both be ordered if ever we venture out to West Seattle for dinner at Fresh Bistro again.

Why I loved it: Simple foods prepared with gusto, flavor profiles unlike many, an environment that is inviting and friends with whom we shared excellent conversation over a delicious meal.
