Purdy's Bay Centre Victoria

How I heard of this place: When we first moved to Washington state, my family would often (read: weekly) cross the border to visit friends and family. Purdy’s was one of my dad’s favorite stops! We learned young; and now we keep the tradition going strong.

Type of cuisine: Truffles. Dipped ice cream sticks. What more do you need?

“We’re a Canadian chocolatier with a rich history.

Our founder, Richard Carmon Purdy, started selling homemade chocolates in downtown Vancouver, Canada in 1907. We’re known for fantastic chocolates, fantastic service and fantastic people.

We never compromise on the quality of our products.

We source premium-quality ingredients from around the world, and choose local options whenever possible. In fact, our milk, creams and butter are delivered from BC dairy farms, and most of the sugar used in our creations comes from nearby sugar suppliers.

Purdys’ creations have a short shelf life—and we like it that way.

There’s a very good reason why you won’t find Purdys’ chocolates at your grocery store.

While most wholesale stores keep products on the shelf for a very long time, Purdys’ chocolates are made in small batches without added preservatives, so you know you’re always getting the freshest product possible.”

Ambiance: A mall store, the space outside is somewhat vanilla, but inside Purdy’s one is abundantly overwhelmed (in a good way) with the aromas of fresh chocolate.

Chocolate displays, and white and dark chocolate tubs for dipping ice cream, it’s truly a great place to pause and smell the…chocolate.

What I ordered: Two popsicles with vanilla ice cream inside, dipped first in white chocolate then dark and topped with either nuts (almonds) or sprinkles. We got one of each!

What I loved: All of it. Yum. Get the nuts; a perfect complement for the chocolate.

Why I loved it: Nostalgia. Taste. Service.

Cost: Average ($5 per dipped deliciousness)
