(parrillagrillhydepark.com) – Hyde Park neighborhood, Boise, Idaho
How I heard of this place: A friend of mine moved to Boise just over one year ago, and when I was headed on this little trip, of course I contacted her. When a lunch-time catch-up was scheduled, she chose Parrilla. I obliged.
Type of cuisine: “Parrilla Grill and Cantina creates a fusion food experience in historic Hyde Park featuring fresh, high quality, grilled, marinated meats and vegetables accented by fresh house made salsas and dressings, bold sauces creatively combined in giant steamed tortillas … made any way YOU LIKE IT.” Tex-Mex meets the Pacific Islands in the fusion created at Parrilla.
Ambiance: An airy, open store-front looking out onto Hyde Park’s main drag, Parrilla offers plenty of bar seating under tall skylights, or at the front of the establishment, where tall tables and stools sit against the open, patio-like space of the establishment.
Orders are placed at the counter, where food is assembled (prepared) in front of your eyes, and taken to seats of your choosing. Booth seating is also available for patrons desiring a more intimate dining experience.
What I ordered: A combination Steak and Chicken Burrito ($7.95) with Double R steak marinated and grilled, and marinated and grilled chicken breast with black beans and my choice of cilantro-lime rice. Pico de gallo, jalapeños, lettuce, guacamole and habanero sauce completed my selection.
My dining companion selected the Chicken Burrito Bowl ($7.50), everything the same, minus the steak and tortilla wrap.
What I loved: The fresh, chunky guacamole.
Why I loved it: Large portions that are perfect for lunch on a warm, summer day, giving me plenty of energy for the sightseeing I had planned in the afternoon.
Cost: Average ($6 – $8 per lunch entree)
