(cariboucoffee.com) – Shirlington Village, Arlington, Virginia
How I heard of this place: We moved to Arlington, we visited a friend in Shirlington Village, we happened by and heard great things! Now, two-and-a-half years later, we finally had a reason to step inside.
Type of cuisine: A neighborhood coffee shop, Caribou offers espresso beverages, teas and a variety of pastries and snacks for the hungry patron.
Ambiance: Enter the floor-to-ceiling windowed corner unit (or sit outside), to a warm and cozy coffee-scented interior.
This particular location is relatively small, a long rectangular space leading you towards the left, where the barista, register and seating await.
What I ordered: We were meeting and treating a friend of ours from the north end of the city, and had a bit of time to peruse the menu as we awaited his arrival. While the delicacies in the pastry case were inviting,
we stuck solely to coffee orders, including a large Caramel High Rise ($4.69), a latte made with caramel, topped with whipped cream and a caramel drizzle, a small decaf whole milk cappuccino ($3.69) and my indulgence: a small Mint Condition Mocha ($4.39) made with dark chocolate, peppermint, whipped cream and a spoonful of Andes mint crumbles atop.
What I loved: The smoothness of the Mint Condition, just like the Andes mint that tops it. Light on the tongue, creamy through the mouth and just the right among of espresso to balance the sweetness.
Why I loved it: Friendly, knowledgable staff that seemed to enjoy their jobs, a calming atmosphere overlooking the passerby in the Village, and the company of an old, dear friend.
Cost: Average ($3 – $5 per espresso beverage)
