(blazepizza.com) – University Center, Orange County, California
How I heard of this place: My sister! Each visit to the UCI campus allows for new culinary adventures. Blaze is among her newest finds.
Type of cuisine: “The story. Our profile. The 411. You get the idea. Ok, we’re gonna keep this quick. Because exceptional quality at freakishly fast speed is what we’re all about. Blaze Pizza. Head food guy, Executive Chef Bradford Kent (aka “The Pizza Whisperer”). Fresh, made-from-scratch dough. Healthful, artisanal ingredients on the assembly line. Inventive to classic. You decide. Blazing hot oven + dedicated pizzasmith + 120 seconds = fast-fire’d, perfectly crisp perfection. Sound good? Enjoy the rest of your day.”
Ambiance: Orange. The first thing one notices about this indoor/outdoor pizza experience is the use of the bright and happy color: orange. Everything from its logo to its chairs, the umbrellas in the patio outside to the color of paint splayed across the walls, orange brings on the happy. See for yourself:
What I ordered: Each of the three of us went with the Build-Your-Own option ($7.45),
one vegetarian with all the vegetables available,
one with white cream sauce and all the meats on a gluten-free crust ($3 additional),
and mine: an eclectic combination of what sounded good in the moment.
As well as one S’mores Pie to share ($1.95).
What I loved: Fresh, made-the-way-you-want-it pizza! Everyone wins!
Why I loved it: A novel concept, a great space, eating outdoors with my family. Love.
Cost: Low ($5 – $7.45 per pie)
