How I heard of this place: After ordering a Harper’s Ferry tubing adventure through LivingSocial, my friends and I were in search of the catered cuisine we would be served at the all-you-can-eat BBQ and came across Beefalo Bob’s website. So, if it wasn’t for LivingSocial, I may still be waiting to hear about Beefalo Bob’s…

Type of cuisine: “For over a quarter of a century, Beefalo Bob’s has been providing Maryland and the surrounding areas with only the finest quality foods and catering services at affordable rates. Whether catering for 10 or 10,000, we guarantee the same level of professional courtesy and service. Unlike most caterers, Beefalo Bob’s cooks and slices pit beef, pit ham, pit turkey, and other meats fresh on site. We smoke all of our quality bbq meats naturally, the old fashioned way, with hickory wood (instead of gas) giving them a full, mouthwatering flavor that keeps everyone coming back for more.”

Ambiance: Since we had a catered lunch atop a beautiful Virginia mountainside after a glorious afternoon of tubing down the river at Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia, we were deprived of the opportunity to see the inside of Beefalo Bob’s.

What I ordered: On this venture, we were given a buffet-style choice of homemade baked beans, bright orange macaroni & cheese, homemade cole slaw, potato chips, open pit shredded beef BBQ, hamburgers, hot dogs, and fresh bakery hamburger rolls and condiments (BBQ sauce, mustard, mayonnaise, horseradish and fresh, thin-sliced onions). And yes, I partook of everything listed above. And then went back for seconds.

What I loved: Of everything offered, I most thoroughly enjoyed the shredded beef BBQ, for flavor, texture and consistency – perfectly shredded, some parts slightly burnt but more crispy, other parts soft and tender, juicy with BBQ sauce and not in need of any additional seasoning. The 100% beef hot dogs were also very tasty, thick and juicy. The potato chips crispy, the mac n’ cheese cheesy, the cole slaw fresh and the baked beans creamy and delicious. The only thing I would skip on the next round is the burger, having been slightly dry and without the condiments I tend to enjoy (cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles).

Why I loved it: I loved the friendly staff, the fresh-cooked ingredients, prepared directly in front of you, the all-you-can-eat goodness at every bite and the ability to enjoy a casual meal outdoors among friends.

Cost: Low to average ($15.95 per person for on-site catering, based on 100+ guests, not including beverages)
