(jaithairestaurant.com) – Capital Hill
How I heard of this place: The first time I had heard of Jai Thai was when I visited the location in Fremont with a group of friends. While I cannot recall the first person to introduce me to the place, Dave is my strongest association with the restaurant due to his love of Jai Thai.
Type of cuisine: Thai food, served to the American palate – not too spicy, not too overwhelmingly full of flavor and everything we could ask for in terms of food options.
Ambiance: I have yet to visit the inside of the Capital Hill Jai Thai, but the one in Fremont is very spacious, with tall ceilings. A dark interior is heightened by the dark, wooden furniture and Thai art on the walls and mantles. Large, flat screen television sets often showcase Shakira or Jennifer Lopez music videos for entertainment and conversation!
What I ordered: My friend Richard brought me a delightful array of take-out, including a hearty Tom Kha soup (with chicken) to help my cold heal quickly and fresh rolls with shrimp. The fresh rolls ($7.95) came with prawns, tofu, spinach, bean sprouts, cucumber and carrots wrapped in rice paper and served with hoisin sauce. The Tom Kha with chicken ($8.95) is a hot and sour soup with mushrooms, onion, tomato, lemongrass, carrots, cilantro, green onion and lime leaves.
What I loved: The thick coconut milk and spiciness of the soup could not be equaled. Not only did it clear out the sinuses, but coated the throat and opened up my sense of smell…and taste!
Why I loved it: Nearly everything I have tried at Jai Thai over the years has been delicious and well worth returning for. The food is consistent – dining in and with take away – and easily satisfies the Thai food craving.
Cost: Average ($10-$12 for a dinner entree)
