(dailygrill.com) – Downtown Seattle
How I heard of this place: Through my friend Chris, who frequents this establishment before enjoying shows at the 5th Avenue Theater.
Type of cuisine: American
Ambiance: Pub-style, casual or business casual; a place you would go to watch the game (sports bar-esque). Many there were obviously people who worked up the road or around the corner and were spending their afternoon (I was there at about 3:30 p.m.) enjoying a quick, inexpensive bite with drinks. Several dined alone in the bar. A mother and her son sat on the leather couches in the lobby area, enjoying their salad and soup, respectively, while watching football on the big screen.
What I ordered: Number one for me was the bleu cheese fries, which turned out to be my favorite item ordered. The fries were perfectly crispy and soft inside, topped with chunks of bleu cheese and a smattering of a white cream sauce. They were not over-cheesed or creamed and tasted great throughout the entire dining experience! We were choosing other favorites of my dining companion as well as maybe a new item or two. We ordered the chicken meatballs with marinara sauce, which was unanimously the least favorite of the selection. It came with four meatballs that were somewhat hard in a not-flavorful-enough marinara sauce, which could have used more cheese topping. The third thing we ordered: beef sliders. Two small beef burgers came side by side, with a pickle and tomato. I felt they were slightly dry without any ketchup or mustard. I’d order them again, with a side of ranch or something saucy to go with it. The final dish was six slices of buttered crostini with spinach artichoke dip. This was my second favorite item. No one skimped on artichokes with this order! There was also plenty of spinach and plenty of cheese for those of us without sensitivities or allergies to the aged perfection.
What I loved: The bleu cheese fries were the hit of the palate on this evening. I also loved the blueberry peach cobbler, which was ordered by the woman sitting behind me. How would I know, you might ask? When I got up to leave, I had to ask her what it was that she was enjoying, served in such a large dish with a towering ball of vanilla ice cream. She offered me a clean spoon and said that I just had to taste it for myself. Which, of course, I wasn’t shy to do. And I admit, I’d do it again if presented with the same offer!
Why I loved it: They have bleu cheese fries. ‘Nough said. But, I’ll also add that they have a birthday club, which earns you a $15 gift certificate for your birthday. And if you’re of the lucky few, you may even get a second “belated birthday” gift certificate in the order of $15.
Cost: $3-$5 per item
